What is a day like in our homeschool?

(Mikaela pictured at right with sugar cube Pyramid and Barbie mummy.)

We begin our day early with a short read-aloud at breakfast, and then begin individual core subjects: Latin, math and memory work.  We find it works best to get those "out of the way" first thing in the morning. After we enjoy an alternating activity such as music, picture study, or Shakespeare, we finish our academic day with History or Geography, including plenty of hands-on fun!

Child writing

Then,  it's time for a flexible afternoon of fun and free time: activities, a field trip, free play, piano practice, games, free reading, craft work, or projects. Maybe just climbing up the tall Maple tree sounds best! This is the time our child may delve into learning areas of her choice.

In the evening, we wind down our day with Bible study and hymn singing together as a family.
